Scuba Diving For Fun and Sport!

Scuba diving has been around for ages, and is still found to be quite an enjoyable sport. In scuba, the diver wears a personal breathing mask attached to a tank of oxygen, which gives them the freedom to swim freely and for great lengths of time. It is mainly done for sport, but is also used for research by those who study fish and marine life. There is a never ending amount to sites to be seen and discovered with this sport.
Scuba actually stands for self contained underwater breathing apparatus.

scubaOriginally developed as an acronym, it is now a common word and used widely to describe the sport. Scuba is used professionally for reasons of cave diving, deep water diving, and wreck diving. Wreck diving is a hugely popular professional reason, as this is the easiest way to check out the ruins of a ship that sunk, and study to find the causes as well. Cave diving is gaining in popularity for both professional and recreational reasons. While some use it to study caves and look for undiscovered life, some use it for seeing the sites and beauty that an underwater cave have to offer.

Military diving is also another aspect. This is used for training, especially for Navy SEALS, to prepare themselves for endurance and possible war situations. It is also used to learn how to place mines and possible bomb disposal. Scuba is also now being used in police training in some areas. This is especially important for search missions, in the unfortunate case of a missing person. It is also used by police for rescue missions, in the case of a drowning victim.

Gaining in status, is scuba for photography. Many national magazines and websites use the pictures of fish and water life in their natural settings to gain popularity. Some scuba divers will even film underwater to catch all the wildlife as it lives, and make a living by selling the footage. There have even been some couples that have insisted on underwater weddings, and scuba has made this possible as well.

Scuba diving is a thrilling experience, regardless of the reason behind the dive. For those who want a great adventure, this is certainly an option to consider. Those who would like to find a career that correlates to their love of the water, this is definitely for you. Scuba has many things to offer for everyone, and is always a new exciting experience.

Spearfishing, A Sport Of Champions!

Spearfishing has been around for many centuries. It used to be the primary source in which families would receive fresh fish, or meat of any kind, for their meals. Now, it is primarily done for sport, and more to have that amazingly large trophy fish that hangs proudly above the fireplace. This sport is catching on more recently due to it being exposed and popularized through television shows that center around the sport. But there is a lot more history to spearfishing than may be known.

fishSpearfishing started back in the times of ancient Greece. Men would take hours to make the perfect spear, carving the tips and searching for the perfect stone to be shaped into a tip. The advanced spear man would even make a three pointed spear, also known as a trident, to improve their chances of a strike. After this had been made to their liking, they would wade out into open, clear waters and wait. When that awaited for fish finally swam by, the men would throw the spear with all their might, hoping to strike that fish and bring it home for meals. This was quite time consuming, but rewarding as it provided food for their families.

In this modern time, there are now guns that are made and geared towards the sport of spearfishing. These guns can resemble rifles, even handguns. It is done primarily in conjunction with scuba diving, since the guns and spears are made to be waterproof to do so. The hunter will go out into deep waters, and aim to strike the most glorious of fish, swordfish a common favorite. There are still some who prefer shore diving, which is still out in some deeper waters, but ofter draw a different variety of fish, some being sharks and reef fish.

Freshwater spearfishing is a very popular method as well. This takes place in primarily lakes and rivers, with the object of desire being larger rough fish, such as carp and bass. This is popular in the U.S. especially, since that is the fish most abundant in the areas commonly fished at. This is most used in the Midwestern states with the most lake and river access points.

Spearfishing has been around for a long time, and will only continue to grow in popularity as it gets more known of and researched. It is a tried and true method to bring in fresh fish for that family day cooking on the grill, or for that avid fisherman wanting to make that coveted catch to share the story of with fellow fishers. There are a lot of places to learn about spearfishing if this is a sport that seems of interest. It will always be an enjoyable experience, regardless of the reason behind.
